{b}   Project Greenways    is a joint effort between Dallastown Area High School and the York Township Commissioners Office. Water is collected and tested from different stream sites from the major waterway sources in York Township.  All streams feed into the Codorus, which empties into the Susquehanna and ultimately, the {pic3} Chesapeake Bay.

Water is tested for temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen, nitrates, phosphates, and total dissolved solids. The collected data will help to establish a greenways plan for our area. All students, grades 9-12, are invited to participate in this project. If you are interested in science and the environment, this is a great opportunity for you to learn and to help improve your own community.

Testing is completed monthly at each site. The entire project is done on a voluntary basis. Students  conduct several tests {p} at the stream site.  Water is then collected and brought back to the chemistry lab for further testing. All work is done during the student’s free time.

Results are tabulated and analyzed by the students on a regular basis. In addition, the results are shared with York Township.
