Definition of an Educational Foundation A school foundation is a private not-for-profit entity--usually incorporated under state laws or under the sponsorship of another private non-profit--which is governed by a board of directors that is separate and distinct from the educational entities it was created to support.*

Why does Dallastown Area School District need a foundation?
Because our district population has demanded the best that we can provide to our students, and because we are facing the potential reduction in support from the state as change occurs, there is the need to look elsewhere for funding for programs. Resources make a difference in the educational outcome, and charitable giving is a unique way to find these resources.
What can a foundation do for Dallastown area schools and the community?
The foundation will provide a vehicle for people to give to the school district on a tax exempt basis. It will also focus the efforts and resources of our alumni on the districts greatest needs. The foundation will also create a forum to prioritize the additional resources needed to enhance our educational environment.
How will your contribution be utilized?
Current plans for the foundation funds include Educational Opportunity Grants, endowment for the perpetuity of the foundation, and special projects. Educational Opportunity Grants will be awarded each year to classroom teachers to be used for projects that expand academic and cultural opportunities for students in the Dallastown Area School District. Each year the foundation will also utilize a percentage of funds received for an endowment fund to perpetuate the long-term viability and growth of the foundation. As determined, funds may be used for special projects.
