Dear Parents,

We are very excited to be working with your child this year! There are so many fun things to do and learn in second grade, and we can"t wait to get started! We hope that this year you will be a partner in your child"s education. Your child will have greater success if we work together to make this the best year yet!

Stay Tuned: Ask your child what he or she learned each day at school. Be sure to check the homework folder EVERY night! This is where homework to be completed folderwill be stored, as well as any newsletters, notes, or completed work. Our newsletter will help keep you informed of classroom happenings, as well as school spirit events!

Ask Questions: If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us at school. The school number is 244-3785. Mrs. Markey's extension is 4014, and Mrs. Tsoukalos-Burtner's extension is 4016. You may also email us at karen.markey@dallastown.net or aliki.tsoukalos-burtner@dallastown.net. We try to check our email everyday, however, if your message is urgent, please call the school and we will be sure to get back to you as soon as possible.

Homework: You can expect your child to have some type of homework everyday. The homework assignments will always be written in the assignment book. This is kept in the take home binder. This binder goes home everyday. We encourage you Owl Readingto set up a scheduled time for homework each day. Most assignments are expected to be completed independently, but please help your child if it is necessary. If your child is struggling with his or her homework, please jot a note on the homework assignment and we will be sure to give him or her the assistance needed. If your child is falling behind in school work and is having difficulty, we will be sure to call you and let you know!

Snack:  apples If your child is planning on bringing in a treat for his or her birthday, please give us a heads up at least a day ahead of time! Thank you!

Arrival Time: If your child is a walker or car rider, and is planning on eating breakfast at school, his or her breakfast time is 8:15 am. If your child rides a bus and is planning on eating breakfast at school, he or she may go over to the cafeteria upon arrival. We would also like to request that students arrive at school no earlier school busthan 8:30, unless they are eating breakfast. Prior to the school day, students are to wait on the black top area only, as it is not safe for them to be hanging around or playing on the equipment with no supervision. We certainly do not want your child to get injured prior to the school day. If you need to come into the school in the morning, please enter through the front doors and sign-in at the office. Thank you!

Sincerely,
Mrs. Tsoukalos-Burtner and Mrs. Markey
