Overview of Course Descriptions
Physical Education is required in all grades.
This program is designed to include the fundamental concepts of physical fitness development, sport skill development, and an appreciation for recreational activities, and emotional and social development. O,S, & U, grades are given in this course

Anatomy can be taken in 11 & 12th grade Level III This is a specialized study of the structural and functional relationship of the human body for students interested in health areas and careers allied to medicine. Topics include Bones, Parts of Bones, Muscles, Origin+Insertion+Function of Muscles. Anatomy & Physiology of Heart and Digestive System. Students MUST have had a "B" or better in Health and Biology I. All other students must obtain permission of the Anatomy instructor. Year Course: Meets daily Credit Calue: 1.0
Health can be taken in 10,11,& 12th grade Level II
Health is a required course
The Aim of Health Education is to assist the student in gaining an intelligent understanding of the human body and mind in order to maintain good health. At the same time the goal is the coupling of the student's knowledge with a desire to achieve the highest degree of physical and mental fitness.
Year Course: Meets three times per week

Can be taken in 12th grade Level III This course is designed for those who are interested in Health or Physical Education careers, Athletic Training, Coaching, Officiating and advanced levels of sports. Two to three classes/week will be in the gym and fulfill the 0.4 credit required for Physical Education. Classroom studies will include analysis of skills, techniques of coaching, officiating, principals of physical training, prevention and care of athletic injuries, first aid and CPR. Students will need to see only their PE teacher for a recommendation signature. Students will need to meet the following requirements along with a PE teacher's signature: students must have earned an "O" for their final PE grade their Sophomore year and received an "A" or "B" as their final grade in their Health class. In addition there is a course requirement of participation in a 5K race(cost) and performing a community service for Special Olympics of York. Year Course: Meets Daily (will count as your Physical Education requirement) Credit Value: 1.0 Safety Education can be taken in 9-12th grade Level II
Safety Education is a study of practices of safety in the home, industry, and driving, etc. This is required of all pupils taking driver training but open to all other students. To enroll a student must be 16 years of age before March 1 in the year the course is scheduled.
