The Writing Center

Hours: 7:00 a.m.- 4:15 p.m. Monday through Thursday

7:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Friday

Students utilizing the Writing Center under Mrs. Snyder's watchful eye.

The Writing Center is an extension of the English Department; however, it is open to all departments in the school.  Thirty workstations are available to students.  Students come from study halls to complete research assignments or to type papers that are due for a class. Faculty may bring an entire class to the center for a special assignment. Mrs. Snyder is available to coordinate the scheduling and to offer technical assistance as needed.

Tutorial Services

English Department members are assigned to the Writing Center to help students with individual skills development.

Services include:

1. Remediation in grammar, usage, or mechanics

2. Study help before tests or quizzes

3. Composition assistance

           a.  Help with prewriting/topic selection

   b.  Help with drafting/idea development

   c.  Help in identifying errors noted in graded compositions

         (For papers not yet graded, the student must initiate

          specific questions; the tutorial may not be used

          as a proofreading service.)

4.  Assistance in reading comprehension for literature

5.  Vocabulary study tips and practice with words

6.  Assistance in speech preparation: planning, timing, practice, tips for

     improvement, etc.

7. Assistance with online research

8. Assistance with the mechanics of research

9. Assistance with English-related concerns in the Culminating Project (reading,

    writing, speaking, and listening)

10. Supervision of make-up work

11. Remediation for the state mandated testing

12. Other teacher/student-identified skills in need of remediation
