Leaders Heights PTO
Meeting February 27, 3012
Attendance: Beth Martin, Holly Andrews, Timothy Stumpo, Sr., Amanda Hurley, David Hurley, Jennifer Peterman, Chip Patterson, Tammy Snyder, Tracie Conklin, Donna Dunkerley, Amber Isett and Colette Lower
I. Welcome and Introductions: Tracie Conklin
II. Guest Speaker: Matthew Doran – Youth, Family & Sports Director for the
YMCA of York – Shrewsbury location.
a. Healthy kids day is in April and will be from 10-2. Free events such as
face painting, Home Depot activities, family Zumba, SCUBA classes, etc.
b. Summer camp will include a reading program for ages 5 – 15. There will
be prizes for every 200 hours of logged reading. They will have guest
speakers for such subjects as astronomy and other sciences. They will
also have arts and crafts and swimming in their indoor pool.
III. Secretary’s Report: Donna Dunkerley. Tammy Snyder approved and Tracie
IV. Treasurer's Report: Tammy Snyder.
a. Teacher allotments went out. We will give additional $20 to Ms. Woods
since she was missed at the beginning of the school year. Donna
Dunkerley approved, and Holly Andrews 2nd.
b. Received $62 from holiday sales from Five Below.
c. Ag Lab is scheduled for the week of March 5. They will be here the 7th
- 9th. Each class will get to go for 2 presentations and hands on lessons.
V. Principal’s Report: Chip Patterson
a. PSSA testing will begin the week of March 19, instead of the 12th to give
some time to cover some more curriculum. Math will be the first testing
b. We need to move ahead with the latest changes in administration and
ignore the rumors.
c. Budget items: School consolidation, teachers and para-professionals are
again being looked at this time. The only teachers at elementary level
that may be lost are the computer teacher and possibly 2 less
kindergarten classes due to enrollment, not furloughing.
VI. Committee Reports
a. School Store is March 14th.
b. News Letter – Tracie needs information by 5pm on Tuesday 2/28.
c. Family Fun Night is March 30 at 6:00 pm in the Middle School.
d. 3rd grade Party
e. Spring Book Fair is March 6th – 9th
f. May Day is May 5th. The theme chosen by the 3rd grade is Luau.
VII. Miscellaneous discussion items.
a. PAG Meeting – Tracie Conklin attended along with Katy Breault. Josh
Dull, the principal from the middle school will help with Dr. Dryer for
the time being.
b. Started an online technology committee.
c. Keystone exams are prep for SATs based on the state model. Keystone
Test had a 40% pass rate and 60% failure rate. This will not affect
graduation until 2015.
d. Focusing on career prep studies.
e. Fall Fundraiser – still don’t know which class raised the most money
and should have an ice cream party. This was clarified. Three top
individual winners were from the kindergarten classes. Miss Fajt's
class won the ice-cream party.
f. Town Meeting to be held at the Intermediate School on Wednesday
2/29 at 7pm.
g. Next May Day committee meeting is scheduled for March 27th at 7pm
in the school library, but it may be changed to March 20th if possible.
h. Dates to remember:
i. 3/5 – no school.
ii. 3/11 – Daylight savings time – spring forward 1 hour.
iii. 3/26 – end of the 3rd marking period – report cards will go home
iv. 3/30 – Family Fun Night at 6pm at the middle school.
v. Scrapbooking day is on March 24 from 9am – 6pm. It benefits the
Senior class of 2012. Contace Tammy Morrison or Gena Zero for
more information. It is $30 per person and will be held at the
high school. The senior class also is raising money by selling
t-shirts. An email was forwarded by Mr. Patterson which included
the order form.
vi. Still need to purchase two easy up tents.
vii. Open to PTO for any items they would like to address.
