Distance Learning Update - April 2, 2020

Dear Parents and Guardians,

First and foremost, I’d like to thank you for your enthusiasm and participation in Phase 1 of Distance Learning. It is great to see so many of our students reconnecting with the DASD community.

This message is to provide you with the Distance Learning plan for the week of  April 6, 2020. As mentioned in my previous communication, the Distance Learning model is designed to be implemented in phases, below you will find the information regarding your child(s) grade level.

Week of April 6, 2020

Access the DASD Family Distance Learning Website here.

Note: Enhancements have been made to the Technology Support Resources Page.

  • Kindergarten - Grade 6 will continue Phase I of the Distance Learning Framework. This includes new optional activity menus on the DASD Family Distance Learning website. Students will not need to make up these days, due to the waiver from the Pennsylvania Department of Education for the 2019-20 school year.

  • Grade 7 - Grade 12 will move to Phase 2, Flexible Instructional Days (FIDs). Students will complete learning assignments provided by their teacher posted on the DASD Family Distance Learning website at home to support the continuation of learning activities in a variety of ways designed by the grade-level and/or subject-level team. Students will be engaging in subject area content that would have originally taken place during a regular school day. Additional enrichment resources and optional activities may also be provided for exploration when applicable.

We anticipate that kindergarten through grade 6 will transition to Flexible Instruction Days (FIDs) on Tuesday, April 14, 2020. Additional information and updates will be communicated to you as it becomes available.

Additionally, with the indefinite closure of schools, as Dallastown Area School District transitions to FIDs, grades 7-12 will transition and later grades 4-6, to a pass/fail grading system for coursework will be implemented.  While we recognize this grading structure may generate questions regarding grading for each course, please wait for further follow-up at the building levels regarding scoring details throughout the Phase II FIDs implementation.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher or school principal directly.

Sincerely,

Erin M. Heffler, Ed.D.
Assistant Superintendent
