March 12, 2020 Update

Dear DASD Parents and Guardians:

Across the nation, the coronavirus is a topic at the forefront of everyone’s minds. As a top priority, Dallastown has been closely monitoring the situation in collaboration with the York County Office of Emergency Management, Pennsylvania Department of Health, and the Pennsylvania Department of Education.

On Friday morning, March 13, superintendents throughout the commonwealth will be in communication with PA’s Secretary of Education, Pedro Rivera. At this time, we can only speculate as to what information will be provided from that communication. Our administration team has been working diligently over the past few weeks to develop contingency plans for a multitude of possible scenarios that may be presented.

The District continues to assess the viability of field trips, professional development conferences, the utilization of volunteers, and community use of facilities. Tomorrow afternoon, I plan to share with you the direction Dallastown Area School District will take, based on the outcome of the session with the PA Department of Education and the current status of the pandemic.

A central database of information regarding the coronavirus is active on the district website for students, staff, and parents. Additionally, it is important that we all continue the precautionary measures that have been shared.

It has been my goal to ensure transparency and appropriate levels of communication as together we navigate this ordeal. I recognize and empathize the natural anxiety we all share when facing the unknown. This anxiety is amplified even more as we are working with our most precious treasure, your children. We are thankful for your support and encourage you to remain calm and steady through it all.

Please contact Mrs. Nicole Montgomery, Coordinator of Marketing and Communication, should you have any questions. Mrs. Montgomery can be reached at 717-244-4021 ext. 4292 or via email at nicole.montgomery@dallastown.net.

I look forward to providing you with additional clarity tomorrow afternoon.

Thank you,
Joshua A. Doll, Ed.D.
Superintendent
