March 16, 2020 Update

Dear Dallastown Area School District Families,
We continue to receive additional guidance from the Pennsylvania Department of Education since the announcement was made to close our schools through March 27, 2020.

I am writing you with a few updates and the plan moving forward, as of today. Again, thank you for your patience as we work through this evolving situation.

Instruction:

  • Due to Governor Wolf’s order to shut down all public schools in Pennsylvania, we are closed by decree of the state and are not permitted to offer education or use Flexible Instruction Days during this time. Therefore, all student instruction has been suspended.
  • We are monitoring the situation and are continuing to reach out to the Pennsylvania Department of Education for additional guidance.
If there is a need to remain closed beyond the 10 days, we will revisit the option to use a foundational framework for distance learning and/or Flexible Instruction Days, if permissible.

District Buildings/Facilities:

  • All buildings in Dallastown Area School District are closed and all programs/activities are canceled. This includes the use of all outside fields and our secondary campus stadium.
  • Per the recommendation of Governor Wolf, only essential staff members are currently reporting to work.
  • If you are in need of an item that is locked in your child’s school building, please contact your principal through email to make arrangements for pick up.

Communication:

  • We ask that parents and students refrain from contacting teachers at this time.
  • All building-specific questions should be directed to the appropriate building principal for the remainder of the closure.
  • Additional district-wide communication will be distributed when pertinent and/or new information is available to share with our school community.

Student Medications:

  • Our nursing staff will be reaching out to each student if their personal medication is stored on campus. Arrangements for pickup of the medication will be made by our nursing staff.

Breakfast/Lunch for Students:

  • We will continue to offer grab-and-go lunches free of charge to all Dallastown Area School District students. Lunches can be picked up at Dallastown Area High School, 700 New School Lane, Dallastown, PA 17313, between the hours of 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. at door 4.

I also encourage you to continue to visit our district website for up-to-date information, including a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) document, which provides responses to many important questions.

More importantly, it is critical during this time that we come together as a community, spend time with loved ones, and most importantly stay healthy. This situation is constantly evolving, and we will continue to provide updates as information becomes available throughout the closure.

Thank you for your continued support and understanding as we navigate this day by day.

Stay safe and healthy,
Dr. Joshua A. Doll
Superintendent
