March 2, 2020 Update

Greetings DASD Families,
You have likely seen in the news or on social media about a new coronavirus (2019-nCoV). We know this kind of news can be worrisome and concerning. Please know that this matter has our top priority.

Although there are no known cases of the virus in our area, we want our families to be assured that we are monitoring this situation closely. The District continues to follow guidance from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

Here are some things the CDC recommends to stay healthy:

  • Wash hands with soap and water for 20 seconds; use alcohol-based sanitizer if no water is available
  • Avoid touching eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands
  • Avoid close contact (within 6 feet) with those who are sick
  • Stay home if sick
  • Cover cough or sneeze with tissue, throw tissue in trash, wash hands
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched object and surfaces

Our schools are cleaned and disinfected daily as part of ongoing custodial services. During a time of potential heightened illness, such as flu season, our staff enhances cleaning services and has plans in place to address areas in which higher incidents of illness may occur throughout that time.

Despite our best efforts, if the coronavirus reaches our area, we will coordinate with local, state, and federal health officials about the most appropriate course of action. We will take the necessary measures – up to and including the closing of the school buildings – to keep students and staff healthy.

The resources below have been shared with the District in an effort to help us learn more about the Coronavirus and communicate with our staff, families, and community about this issue.

Sincerely,
Joshua A. Doll, Ed.D
Superintendent
