If a child presents with head lice, the child shall be excluded according to the guidelines of the division of School Health.
- The child may return to school the morning after he or she has been treated with a pediculicide.
- The child shall present a box top from the pediculicide used.
- The child shall be examined by the certified school nurse, health assistant, or substitute nurse for remaining lice/ nits and excluded if live lice are present.
- If a child presents with nits, the parent/ guardian will be contacted for treatment requirements and the student may remain in school until the end of the school day.
- School nurses in other district buildings will be alerted to possible infestations of siblings and playmates of the infested child.
- Students in the child’s classroom and playmates may be checked by the nurse.
- The child shall be checked at appropriate intervals as determined by the nurse.
