Luis PerezPhiladelphia is the city of brotherly love, where the Declaration of Independence was signed and home of the famous Liberty Bell. This fall, Dallastown Area Middle School students had the opportunity to participate in an Expedition trip that coordinated with their pathway. For Luis Perez, he chose to travel to Philadelphia to learn more about the various fields of business.

During their trip, the group visited Independence Hall, home of the Liberty Bell. As most students were able to see the bell from a distance, Luis, who is blind, received the experience of a lifetime as a park ranger allowed him to touch the bell.

Luis described the experience as something people would never believe. “I was hesitant at first, it was a great experience and I am thankful I had the opportunity to touch it,” said Luis.

As a follow up Luis also received a book in braille on Benjamin Franklin and the opportunity to learn more at the Benjamin Franklin Museum from the Independence Historical Trust. Luis is now starting to learn about the first Constitutional Convention in the classroom and is looking forward to the chapter on Benjamin Franklin.
