Our school district provides its students with the most effective web-based tools and applications for learning. Many of these tools, like Study Island, KidBlog and MobyMax, for example, are not owned/operated by the Dallastown Area School District, but by third parties. In order for our students to use third party services, certain student information might be requested by the service provider (typically a student name, password, user name or email address). Under federal law entitled the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act COPPA), these websites and content providers must provide parental notification and obtain parental consent before collecting information from children under the age of 13. With parental permission, instead of every website and online service contacting the parent personally, the law permits the school to act as the parent's agent and can consent to the collection of student information on the parent's behalf. A complete list of web-based resources with their privacy policies and terms of service is listed below. This list is updated regularly and available for families to continually check the resources made available to students.
Our teachers and staff are expected to thoroughly review each resource before utilizing with students. Resources are selected based on their instructional value and safety with use by students. We limit the student information communicated to third-party instructional websites to include only a name and school email address.
